However, neither people nor security systems are foolproof, including encryption systems. In addition, people can commit intentional crimes, make mistakes or fail to follow policies. Therefore, while we use reasonable efforts to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your unique password and account information at all times.
You should be aware that it is not technologically possible to remove each and every record of the information you have provided to us from our system. Understanding GDPR, CCPA, and LGPD
Information about General Data Protection Regulation
We may be collecting and using information from you if you are from the European Economic Area (EEA), and in this section of our Privacy Policy we are going to explain exactly how and why is this data collected, and how we maintain this data under protection from being replicated or used in the wrong way.
What is GDPR?
GDPR is an EU-wide privacy and data protection law that regulates how EU residents' data is protected by companies and enhances the control the EU residents have, over their personal data.
The GDPR is relevant to any globally operating company and not just the EU-based businesses and EU residents. Our users' data is important irrespective of where they are located, which is why we have implemented GDPR controls as our baseline standard for all our operations worldwide.
What is personal data?
Any data that relates to an identifiable or identified individual. GDPR covers a broad spectrum of information that could be used on its own, or in combination with other pieces of information, to identify a person. Personal data extends beyond a person's name or email address. Some examples include financial information, political opinions, genetic data, biometric data, IP addresses, physical address, sexual orientation, and ethnicity.
The Data Protection Principles include requirements such as:
- Personal data collected must be processed in a fair, legal, and transparent way and should only be used in a way that a person would reasonably expect.
- Personal data should only be collected to fulfill a specific purpose and it should only be used for that purpose. Organizations must specify why they need the personal data when they collect it.
- Personal data should be held no longer than necessary to fulfill its purpose.
- People covered by the GDPR have the right to access their own personal data. They can also request a copy of their data, and that their data be updated, deleted, restricted, or moved to another organization.
Why is GDPR important?
GDPR adds some new requirements regarding how companies should protect individuals' personal data that they collect and process. It also raises the stakes for compliance by increasing enforcement and imposing greater fines for breach. At Sofascore we strongly believe that your data privacy is very important and we already have solid security and privacy practices in place that go beyond the requirements of this new regulation.
Individual data subject's rights - data access, portability and deletion
We are committed to helping our users and data subjects meet the data subject rights requirements of GDPR. Sofascore processes or stores all personal data in fully vetted, DPA compliant vendors. We do store all conversation and personal data for up to 6 years unless your account is deleted. In which case, we dispose of all data in accordance with our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy, but we will not hold it longer than 60 days.
We want you to be in control of your information, so we provide you with the following tools.
- Access, Correction, and Portability. You may access and edit most of your basic account information right on our website. Because your privacy is important to us, we will ask you to verify your identity or provide additional information before we let you access or update your personal information. We may also reject your request to access or update your personal information for several reasons, including, for example, if the request risks the privacy of other users or is unlawful. If you discover that the personal data we process about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to have it corrected without undue delay (if technically possible) or to have it rectified if the inaccuracy or incompleteness has unreasonably affected your personality. You have the right to ask us to provide you with information about what personal data we process, for what purpose, and for how long it will be processed. We have the right to protect the source and content of the information.
- Revoking permissions. In most cases, if you let us use your information, you can simply revoke your permission by changing the settings. Of course, if you do that, certain services may lose full functionality.
- Deletion. While we hope you will remain a Sofascore user, if for some reason you ever want to delete your account, it is possible to do so through the Platform. If you find that the processing of your personal data has unreasonably affected your personality, you have the right to request that we delete your personal data. However, pursuant to Sofascore's Terms and conditions (part “Your Suggestions”), in the event that you submit or post any ideas, creative suggestions, designs, photographs, information, advertisements, data or proposals, including ideas for new or improved products, services, features, technologies or promotions, you expressly agree that such submissions will automatically be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary and will become the sole property of Sofascore without any compensation or credit to you whatsoever
- Right to restriction of processing. Even if your personal information is used for journalistic purposes, there are specific circumstances in which you can exercise your right to restrict how that information is treated. With the use of this right, you can ask that the data not be processed any further for a specific amount of time. When each of the following circumstances is true, we must limit how personal data is processed:
- We no longer need your personal data for the above processing purposes;
- You require your personal data to establish, exercise or defend your legal claims; and at the same time, enabling us to exercise this right does not require disproportionate effort on our part.
- Right to oppose processing. You have the right to oppose, but only in specific instances when the disclosure or publication of your personal information is necessary to further our legitimate interests. Please give particular details to support your claim that the protection of your rights and freedoms surpasses the interests of the general public in freedom of expression in this situation. We will stop providing the relevant personal data if we determine that it has been proven that your interest is superior.
In any case you can object to our direct marketing activities, and you may unsubscribe from our newsletter by clicking the link in our email or responding to us with your claim. In such a case we will stop with marketing activities and store your data in an unsubscribed list for three years from the day of unsubscribing, based on our legitimate interest to prove facts on compliance steps we need to take.
You can request us to confirm whether personal data concerning you is being processed by us at any moment, as well as request from us to clarify the purposes for which the personal data are processed; the categories of personal data being processed; the recipients or categories of recipients to whom the personal data concerning you have been or are still being disclosed; any available information on the origin of the data if the personal data are not collected from you as the data subject.
Your right to object
You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data. With many types of personal data, we have provided you with the ability to simply delete it if you do not want us processing it anymore. For example, you always have the right to object to our legitimate interest in performing direct marketing activities and you always have the right to withdraw your consent.
For other types of data, we have given you the ability to stop the use of your data by disabling the feature altogether. If there are other types of personal data you don't agree with us processing, you can contact us.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint to the supervisory data protection authority (in Croatia the Personal Data Protection Agency).
If you have exercised your right to have us correct, delete or limit the processing, we are obliged to inform all recipients to whom the personal data concerning you have been disclosed of this correction or deletion of the data or restriction on processing, unless this proves impossible or involves a disproportionate effort.

Brazilian LGPD
Brazil's data protection law, the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) or “General Law of Personal Data Protection”, creates a legal framework for how personal data is to be handled in Brazil. Brazil's LGPD not only protects Brazilians, but all individuals whose data is collected or processed while in the country, whether or not they are citizens.
Brazil's LGPD creates nine rights for data subjects:
- confirmation of the existence of the processing of their data
- access their data
- correct incomplete, inaccurate or out of date data
- anonymize, block, or delete unnecessary or excessive data or data that is not being processed in compliance with the LGPD
- have their data be portable, i.e. handed over to another service or processor if requested
- have their data deleted
- information about public and private entities with which the controller has shared data
- information about the possibility of denying consent and the consequences,
- revoke consent.
These are closely modeled after the rights that the GDPR empowers Europeanswith, and are relevant to website owners and operators all over the world, if they collect and process data from individuals in Brazil.
LGPD and data protection authorities
Brazil's data protection law LGPD (Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados) establishes both a national data protection authority (the ANPD) and mandates companies and organizations to appoint a data protection officer. Enforcement of the LGPD is supervised by the ANPD.
Verification
To protect your privacy, we will take the following steps to verify your identity before fulfilling your request. When you make a request, we will ask you to provide sufficient information that allows us to reasonably verify you are the person about whom we collected personal information or an authorized representative, which may include contact information. We will only ask for the minimum data and only what is relevant in the given context.
Governing law
The laws of Croatia, excluding its conflicts of law rules, shall govern this Agreement and your use of the website/app. Your use of the website/app may also be subject to other local, state, national, or international laws.
Revisions to the Privacy Policy
We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. You understand and agree that if you use the Platform after the date on which this Privacy Policy has been updated, Sofascore will treat your use as acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
